dividual

over half of the cells in our bodies are not “human", yet many are vital to our continued function as living organisms,

and might even responsible for our evolution into the species we are today.

there is no existence in isolation

boundaries of self

real or imagined

a web of tangled threads,

connecting our lives — our actions —

where do our bodies end?

in the most intimate of actions, we engage in the sharing of those other organisms living within us

— fungi, bacteria, virus —

sharing the bodies which share our bodies

society as an organism —

yourself as a member of an ecosystem,

the junction of threads which comprise the spider’s web

or

a tangerine peel,

sewn back together and hung on a thread of canvas,

tangled in the winds of an unexpected storm

I was invited by Mack McFarland & Ariana Jacob to install this piece for the emBEINGbodies exhibition hosted by Congress Yard Projects, an outdoor gallery space created during the height of the pandemic.

See more about that exhibition here.
